<br />
The quiz is basically one step: click on the color that makes you feel the most comfortable. As you click on each one, it disappears, and you click the next one that makes you feel the most comfortable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qj0gnxPXLUQ/UH2RedB82jI/AAAAAAAABl8/9boWOlb-caM/s1600/color-test.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qj0gnxPXLUQ/UH2RedB82jI/AAAAAAAABl8/9boWOlb-caM/s1600/color-test.gif" /></a></div>
And then you wait a couple of minutes and do it again, without necessarily trying to replicate the order in which you did it before.<br />
<br />
Then you get multiple pages of really melancholy results:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O55CJRup1y4/UH2VfX-mnwI/AAAAAAAABng/ZTUaJMQ0YdM/s1600/color+test+results.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O55CJRup1y4/UH2VfX-mnwI/AAAAAAAABng/ZTUaJMQ0YdM/s1600/color+test+results.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Maybe my office job is too physically taxing. Maybe I should get a <a href="http://www.backjoy.com/backjoy/pages/index.grid" target="_blank">BackJoy</a> because I REFUSE to sit on a ball and be a new age hippie.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2Jd6GLWvR_U/UH2Vdo6VUcI/AAAAAAAABm8/muHhWrK9SeY/s1600/color+test+results+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2Jd6GLWvR_U/UH2Vdo6VUcI/AAAAAAAABm8/muHhWrK9SeY/s1600/color+test+results+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well this is true. But isn't it true for everyone? And if you think it's not true, imagine yourself at work for a few moments and then reconsider.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Harumph. I may have had my 30th birthday already but I wouldn't call my vitality "depleted" just yet!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is actually a version of what I yell at my boyfriend every time we have a fight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Meh. I wouldn't call myself "burdened." But finally.....<br />
<br />

I do have good taste. I'm not sure about longing for tenderness and a sensitivity of feeling though; that sounds a little too Downton Abbey to me. Disclaimer: I have never seen Downton Abbey.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16936898420389076587noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340609212460153889.post-84358405302801650082012-10-04T06:57:00.001-07:002012-10-04T06:57:20.166-07:00Roasted garlic, where have you been all my life?I've read countless cooking blogs and foodie websites that talk about how easy it is to make roasted garlic, and how tasty it is, but I thought those people were crazy spending all that time roasting <a href="http://www.thehungrymouse.com/2010/02/01/roasted-garlic-three-ways/" target="_blank">full pans of garlic</a> and wasting all that olive oil. Until this weekend...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Yr-8GfkPgI/UGs4Urqr70I/AAAAAAAABlI/h4__PU1lXrc/s1600/garlic+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="498" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Yr-8GfkPgI/UGs4Urqr70I/AAAAAAAABlI/h4__PU1lXrc/s640/garlic+1.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Tiny garlic bulb in a <a href="http://cookware.lecreuset.com/cookware/product_Heritage-18-oz.-Square-Dish_10151_-1_20002_59589_24057" target="_blank">tiny LeCreuset</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
To make roasted garlic, you basically just douse a head of garlic in olive oil after chopping off the top bits of the bulbs so the oil can get ALL up in there. I did this kind of on a whim and just used what I had at home, and I didn't want to pour my entire bottle of olive oil in the pan just for one head of garlic. In a flash of inspiration, I grabbed a <a href="http://www.crateandbarrel.com/set-of-12-clear-silicone-baking-cups/s369497" target="_blank">silicone muffin cup</a> to keep everything compact. I covered the whole thing in foil after the pic, put it in the oven while I was roasting some butternut squash, and then I got...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-w7Z_LWxdKlI/UGs4V_gunvI/AAAAAAAABlY/m3S5GNXwQnM/s1600/garlic+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="416" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-w7Z_LWxdKlI/UGs4V_gunvI/AAAAAAAABlY/m3S5GNXwQnM/s640/garlic+3.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
nutty, fragrant, roasted garlic! When I took it out, I could still see bubbles coming up from the bottom of the muffin cup. The little bulbs are pretty easy to get out, especially if you don't mind getting your fingers and/or chopsticks a little oily. I used some while broiling salmon by cutting deep scores in the salmon and sticking some garlic in the cuts before sprinkling salt, pepper and panko flakes on top. Mmmmmm....<br />
<br />
I can't wait to try this crushed up on some bread!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16936898420389076587noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340609212460153889.post-26588515595964513042012-09-27T12:34:00.001-07:002012-09-27T12:34:37.621-07:00Campaign for WoolStarted by Prince Charles after he realized the world's sheep population was declining and wool prices were plummeting, the <a href="http://www.campaignforwool.org/" target="_blank">Campaign for Wool</a> is a nonprofit that brings wool to the people in the form of various PR-grabbing acts of wool bombing. I clicked Google Translate to try to fill out the form and realized that their 'forgot password' questions are WAY more interesting than ours are.<br />

<br />
Can you imagine if you tried to sign up for Zappos or something, and the security question was about reincarnation?<br />
<br />
On a side note, my dad once forgot his security question answer for the bank and had to talk to customer service for a long time to get it straightened out. The question was "Where would you most like to go on vacation?" and he guessed so many places, then had to answer a ton of other things when he couldn't guess the answer. After about an hour on the phone, they worked it all out. He asked the bank guy what his original answer to the question had been and the guy said, "Staying home."<br />

<br />
One of my birthday weekend activities was going to <a href="http://alstedefarms.com/" target="_blank">Alstede Farm</a> in Chester, NJ. Raymond kept it a surprise until we were halfway there on the train!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: left;">It was so beautiful there, and so great to be outside and get away from the city! </span></div>

Not only do they have vegetables and fruit to pick, but they also had flowers you could cut!<br />
<br />

If you want to go there, you can take the <a href="http://www.njtransit.com/hp/hp_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=HomePageTo" target="_blank">NJ Transit</a> on the Dover line to Gladstone. You have to switch trains at Summit, so don't fall asleep! When you get there, you'll probably be the only ones at the station since it's the end of the line. To get to the farm, you call <a href="http://alstedefarms.com/contact-us/directions-by-nj-transit/" target="_blank">Chester Limo</a> for a ride. You might have to wait half an hour for them to arrive, but at least it's only $10.</div>

Ever since the Chobani store opened in Soho, I've been wanting to go check it out. My favorite plain Greek yogurt is the 2% Fage plain, but Chobani has some really fun flavors like apple cinnamon. I didn't know what to expect from the store, but it was cool!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Raymond, in nothin' but Uniqlo (and shoes by Calvin Klein)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The inside of the store is really fancy. They sell plain yogurt with different topping choices, and you can watch them make it behind the windows.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose fig and walnut, and Raymond had chocolate/pistachio/orange/mint. The sales girl said his flavor is the favorite sweet one, but I liked mine better for sure. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And the best part? You get to keep those little glass bowls!</div>

Then I found this Essie polish, <a href="http://www.beauty.com/essie-nail-color-polish-no-place-like-chrome/qxp409726" target="_blank">No Place Like Chrome</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Look how shiny! My hands are like Tin Man hands! My afternoon conversation with Raymond was a series of variations of this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: Look! My hands look like a robot! Do I look like a robot? Do I look like the Tin Man? Can you see yourself in my nails? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Raymond: (Staring at TV) You look amazing, baby. Come on, Eli!!!! </div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EvtYfSfgktw/UFY9en-owRI/AAAAAAAABfw/zULxla_dSIo/s1600/silver-nails-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EvtYfSfgktw/UFY9en-owRI/AAAAAAAABfw/zULxla_dSIo/s640/silver-nails-3.jpg" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Uniqlo <a href="http://www.uniqlo.com/us/CPaGoods/itemcode=073102" target="_blank">Ultra Stretch Jeans</a>, Aritzia short-sleeve sweatshirt</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: left;">The couples' massage we had today was great; the oil/lotion stuff they used on my hands rubbed off all the mistakes I made while painting my nails this morning. The massage was the second-to-last celebration of my birthday this past Friday (with the last being the cupcake from Billy's Bakery we had afterward). </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My nails match the subway!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_gFHkpqweHc/UFY9b4JmCrI/AAAAAAAABfg/3i6hbxZNaqk/s1600/silver-nails-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_gFHkpqweHc/UFY9b4JmCrI/AAAAAAAABfg/3i6hbxZNaqk/s640/silver-nails-1.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The best part about this polish: it dries so fast, I put on a pair of jeans five minutes after painting it on and didn't get any smudges!</div>

<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joB_jGCp5L4/UEo7VQTE5OI/AAAAAAAABe0/lzrT7dRzph0/s1600/fno+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joB_jGCp5L4/UEo7VQTE5OI/AAAAAAAABe0/lzrT7dRzph0/s640/fno+4.JPG" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Minx manicure on a gorgeous Theory coat</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I chose this great Hawaiian-style print:<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yrLky2BfsWo/UEo7Uq8rQZI/AAAAAAAABes/e6JvpXiTw5I/s1600/fno+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yrLky2BfsWo/UEo7Uq8rQZI/AAAAAAAABes/e6JvpXiTw5I/s640/fno+3.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But I was also really tempted by this one the girl next to me got. Those are little people on the nails!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vgihrAx-uyQ/UEo7TrBt21I/AAAAAAAABek/lDlTmrRU2Cg/s1600/fno+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vgihrAx-uyQ/UEo7TrBt21I/AAAAAAAABek/lDlTmrRU2Cg/s640/fno+2.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The process was a bit more involved than I thought it would be. The stickers heat up under a lamp while they buff your nails to be a little more smooth. Then they stick them on really carefully, use tiny scissors to trim away the extra bits, and let it sit for a few minutes while they do your entire hand. The sticker ends get filed off on the end of your nail. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WWQ57oIAJNk/UEo7V6MniBI/AAAAAAAABe8/C3DTAluIhos/s1600/fno+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WWQ57oIAJNk/UEo7V6MniBI/AAAAAAAABe8/C3DTAluIhos/s640/fno+5.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My hands were totally burning under the heat of that lamp!</div>
<div>
<br />Otherwise, Fashion's Night Out this year was pretty much a wash. Too many people, no sales, no free stuff and almost no free food. There's usually drinks and cupcakes at a bare minimum! I waited forever to get this manicure and I showed up half an hour early. Next year, I'm renting a movie and making my own damn cupcakes.</div>

I got this Tsumori Chisato umbrella at the recent <a href="http://www.shopbird.com/" target="_blank">Bird</a> warehouse sale and was so pumped! My shirt is from Armani Exchange, and it was literally my second time in the store. I never thought I'd wear anything they sold, due to my lack of orange tan and bulging muscles, and my natural aversion to slutty-club-clothes-as-day-wear. The jeans are from Uniqlo and I went every week waiting for them to go on sale. I bought three pairs. I do not regret it.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16936898420389076587noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340609212460153889.post-87777807462556542932012-09-05T08:59:00.000-07:002012-09-05T08:59:10.873-07:00I whip my hair back and forth<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
I went sporty today with the leggings and sneakers, so I went all out and made a real ponytail, with hairspray and everything. This dress is really cute but too short to wear without leggings to work, and it kind of makes a solid belly pooch because of the pockets and the zipper. I'm hoping that when people see it and think I'm three months pregnant, they'll also think "Oh, but her boobs are too small, it's just the dress making a weird pooch."<br />
<br />
Just whip it! Whip it real good.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Me and Gwyneth, twinsies.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
When I saw the <a href="http://www.goop.com/shop/goop-tee.html" target="_blank">t-shirt</a> Gwyneth Paltrow collaborated on with Kain, I thought it was so cute to have a slightly formal update on the basic white T. But I don't spend $90 on my formal clothes, let alone my play clothes! I went to <span id="goog_1004783095"></span><a href="http://www.blogger.com/">Uniqlo<span id="goog_1004783096"></span></a> on my lunch break and got a cotton/modal blend t-shirt for $9, and I had some extra black grograin ribbon left over from another project. This DIY is super easy to do and then you can finally have an excuse to go to a garden and make your boyfriend take pictures of you while you pose like a rich, skinny white woman!<br />
<br />
<b>SUPPLIES:</b><br />
<ul>
<li>White t-shirt</li>
<li>2 yards of black ribbon</li>
<li>Sewing stuff: pins, needle, black thread; or your sewing machine.</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j0SK9Ra7zY8/UA6O-fjOqaI/AAAAAAAABY4/lQsf58DqfWM/s1600/ingredients.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j0SK9Ra7zY8/UA6O-fjOqaI/AAAAAAAABY4/lQsf58DqfWM/s640/ingredients.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<b> </b><br />
<b></b><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<b>Step 1: Pin that sucka!</b><br />
<br />
Take your ribbon and pin it to the seams, cutting it with 1" extra over the bottom seam and 1/2" extra over the armpit seam. Just pin it to the side seams, stopping at the armpit. Pin heavy, because it's hard to sew on seams!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w_r1-z2lnw8/UA6PBXoSOfI/AAAAAAAABZY/eui16Tvv9Tg/s1600/ribbon-extra.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w_r1-z2lnw8/UA6PBXoSOfI/AAAAAAAABZY/eui16Tvv9Tg/s640/ribbon-extra.jpg" width="640" /></a> </div>
<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>Step 2: Pin it real good! </b><br />
<br />
Turn the bottom seam over and pin the 1" extra to the inside so you can sew it down.<br />
<b> </b><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9jkwlfNinTk/UA6PAFl7pNI/AAAAAAAABZI/ROZ6fNptD6E/s1600/ribbon-bottom.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9jkwlfNinTk/UA6PAFl7pNI/AAAAAAAABZI/ROZ6fNptD6E/s640/ribbon-bottom.jpg" width="640" /></a><b> </b></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>Step 3: Baste doesn't make waste.</b><br />
<br />
After you pin it, you can start hand sewing. But if you're going to sew it with the machine, it's going to be easier to run through if you baste first. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mg6Ao1zBUq8/UA6O9SfBB-I/AAAAAAAABYw/M9mTvUEJWvk/s1600/basting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mg6Ao1zBUq8/UA6O9SfBB-I/AAAAAAAABYw/M9mTvUEJWvk/s640/basting.jpg" width="512" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bastin' it and bastin' it and bastin' it well.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
For the end of the ribbon in the armpit, I doubled it over and basted it down, so that when I sew it, the cut end of the ribbon will be hemmed in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CkjoNIJ2IMY/UA6PAgWKSiI/AAAAAAAABZQ/ayl7OuDQgB0/s1600/ribbon-end.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CkjoNIJ2IMY/UA6PAgWKSiI/AAAAAAAABZQ/ayl7OuDQgB0/s640/ribbon-end.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 4: Lock and load, i.e. sew it with the machine.</b><br />
<br />
This step can be done by hand, but if you have a machine, just go for it! Try to get the needle to go in at the edge of the ribbon. If you're using grosgrain, there's a tiny little edge formed in the ribbon and you can aim for that when you're sewing. Don't forget to switch to black thread!<br />
<b> </b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QkpraCB0Yus/UA6O_F8TYEI/AAAAAAAABZA/latkuucbeUQ/s1600/needle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QkpraCB0Yus/UA6O_F8TYEI/AAAAAAAABZA/latkuucbeUQ/s640/needle.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 5: Do the shoulder seams and continue the ribbon down the sleeve.</b><br />
<br />
I forgot to take pictures of this step, but it's basically the same as the other step.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 6: Jump for joy!</b><br />
<br />
You're done! Time to perfect the jump photo. A constant chanting of "1, 2, 3, up, down!" is what worked for us.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AspyHl6d5Dc/UBK1aXEeqkI/AAAAAAAABaQ/6ifrr--7gGY/s1600/shirt-diy-jump-gif.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AspyHl6d5Dc/UBK1aXEeqkI/AAAAAAAABaQ/6ifrr--7gGY/s640/shirt-diy-jump-gif.gif" width="512" /></a></div>

<br />
Were I actually going to a resort, I would first be cool, calm and collected: <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D4L332vTrns/T-3QOILN03I/AAAAAAAABX4/75AOE6tUMgg/s1600/resort-lim.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D4L332vTrns/T-3QOILN03I/AAAAAAAABX4/75AOE6tUMgg/s640/resort-lim.jpg" width="512" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">3.1 Phillip Lim, pics from style.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And then I would just go a little crazy:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

It looked like a child did it, or my boyfriend. So instead I went to the Duane Reade and got myself a regular glitter polish (i.e. glitter in a clear base), Nicole by O.P.I. in <a href="http://www.target.com/p/nicole-by-opi-nail-polish-kardashian-kolors/-/A-13938852" target="_blank">Rainbow in the S-Kylie</a>, from the Kardashian Kolor collection (or should I say, kollection). I paired it with a pale pink from the Sephora by O.P.I. collection called <a href="http://www.sephora.com/nail-colour-P217311" target="_blank">Dear Diary</a> to get kind of a birthday cake/confetti effect. Here are the steps!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XJNU8ysmgIo/T-NOiuvLQdI/AAAAAAAABXc/5AydTjHVp4Q/s1600/step-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="388" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XJNU8ysmgIo/T-NOiuvLQdI/AAAAAAAABXc/5AydTjHVp4Q/s640/step-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ci5qgUd-oDQ/T-DobwqNDEI/AAAAAAAABUw/cJAg9ENTex4/s1600/diy-main-shirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="372" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ci5qgUd-oDQ/T-DobwqNDEI/AAAAAAAABUw/cJAg9ENTex4/s640/diy-main-shirt.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the most awesome things about going to Hawaii was my boyfriend's dad's old walk-in closet that was FILLED with the most amazing vintage aloha shirts I've ever seen! But since I don't have that much use for them in my daily wardrobe, I decided to turn this silk one into a skirt!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's actually pretty easy if you have access to a sewing machine, and doesn't really require being a great seamstress. Read on to find out how to do it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a>You're going to need:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>old men's shirt</li>
<li>elastic (1" or 3/4")</li>
<li>extra fabric to make strips for the elastic casing</li>
<li>sewing supplies (pins, sewing machine, thread, scissors, patience)</li>
</ul>
<div>
Make sure that you can step into the shirt and pull it up to your waist to ensure that it's big enough to work as a skirt.</div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">1. Lay out the shirt and pin it in a horizontal line right above the armpits. This is to make sure that when you cut it across, the layers don't move around and get uneven. Then cut from armpit to armpit.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VSvHSj7klQA/T-DodDcNTCI/AAAAAAAABVI/b3qJUuzUhxE/s1600/shirt-pinned.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="364" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VSvHSj7klQA/T-DodDcNTCI/AAAAAAAABVI/b3qJUuzUhxE/s640/shirt-pinned.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
2. Cut some strips from a scrap fabric that's around the same weight as your shirt. You can also just use strips from the top part of the shirt that you don't need. My elastic was 1" and I cut the strips 2" wide. In hindsight, I'd cut them 2.5" wide just for a little more wiggle room.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zSKTWW9VomU/T-Doh2WMKXI/AAAAAAAABWg/IChy-B13T1I/s1600/strips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zSKTWW9VomU/T-Doh2WMKXI/AAAAAAAABWg/IChy-B13T1I/s640/strips.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Your strips will probably need to be sewn together to be long enough. Sew them together and press the seam, making sure to remember that the strip now has a right and wrong side.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LTxLkZC2hac/T-DogE0CURI/AAAAAAAABWA/PNtSTmrJnEs/s1600/strips-ironed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LTxLkZC2hac/T-DogE0CURI/AAAAAAAABWA/PNtSTmrJnEs/s640/strips-ironed.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Pin the strip to the skirt's top with the right sides facing. Make sure the right side of the strip is facing the skirt, so the seams of the strip will be inside the elastic casing. Pin the two parts of the button placket together so they don't move around while you sew.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z9M5UuO1kBI/T-DoerUaCgI/AAAAAAAABVc/VR_Iu3Jwx_8/s1600/skirt-strip-pinned.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="332" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z9M5UuO1kBI/T-DoerUaCgI/AAAAAAAABVc/VR_Iu3Jwx_8/s640/skirt-strip-pinned.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
5. <span style="background-color: white;">Sew the strip to the shirt, starting on one side of the skirt and going over the button placket with the shirt buttoned as you do it. Leave the two ends hanging off a few inches unsewn.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TRIcx6G3Mgg/T-DohQ7bnLI/AAAAAAAABWY/lRiAXP7qRhQ/s1600/strips-sewn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TRIcx6G3Mgg/T-DohQ7bnLI/AAAAAAAABWY/lRiAXP7qRhQ/s640/strips-sewn.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
6. Fold the skirt with the two unsewn ends of the strips hanging off but lying straight. You want to sew them together to make the strips just the same measurement as the top of the skirt.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x1qVkqvxQxI/T-Dofr1ZTUI/AAAAAAAABV4/IteAIfPR_HY/s1600/strips-hanging.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="430" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x1qVkqvxQxI/T-Dofr1ZTUI/AAAAAAAABV4/IteAIfPR_HY/s640/strips-hanging.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To do that, fold the skirt and strips as the picture, then put a pin in the two strips right where the folded edge of the skirt ends.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i-fmd1ek4Es/T-DogooipHI/AAAAAAAABWI/K3YR-3Ebqyg/s1600/strips-pinned-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i-fmd1ek4Es/T-DogooipHI/AAAAAAAABWI/K3YR-3Ebqyg/s640/strips-pinned-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
7. Then sew it up and trim the ends.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FSfU-j_dFec/T-DohKKnI7I/AAAAAAAABWQ/N5LJFGvxYFE/s1600/strips-sewn-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FSfU-j_dFec/T-DohKKnI7I/AAAAAAAABWQ/N5LJFGvxYFE/s640/strips-sewn-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
8. Next, press the strip seam flat and finish sewing the strip to the skirt. When you're done, press the skirt/strip seam up and the edge of the strip down.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ha4h4tIfM7Y/T-DofAYZeOI/AAAAAAAABVo/3S9bmf-JrOU/s1600/strip-sewn-and-ironed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="408" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ha4h4tIfM7Y/T-DofAYZeOI/AAAAAAAABVo/3S9bmf-JrOU/s640/strip-sewn-and-ironed.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
9. Then press the whole strip down and sew.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aKqp2CcwYLg/T-DofZdYRNI/AAAAAAAABVw/laY7VGGddSE/s1600/strip-undone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="414" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aKqp2CcwYLg/T-DofZdYRNI/AAAAAAAABVw/laY7VGGddSE/s640/strip-undone.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
If you're like me, you will probably forget that you need to leave about 3 or 4 inches unsewn so you can insert the elastic. In that case, just pull out your seam ripper and open a spot!<br />
<br />
10. You can use a safety pin attached to one end of the elastic to push it through the casing. When you've got it all the way through, overlap the ends by an inch and sew them securely.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r41HvAtoiG0/T-DocowcjdI/AAAAAAAABVA/A0wXJC_S_3w/s1600/elastic-sewn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r41HvAtoiG0/T-DocowcjdI/AAAAAAAABVA/A0wXJC_S_3w/s640/elastic-sewn.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
11. Then you go back and pull it flat and sew over the 3-4 inch hole you left. Almost done!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
12. I also sewed a straight vertical line on each of the sides of my skirt as well as in the center back to keep the elastic from turning around so much.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MvCnEllBUCw/T-DocFnwiAI/AAAAAAAABU4/ELhyPL_iLEo/s1600/elastic-sewn-to-casing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MvCnEllBUCw/T-DocFnwiAI/AAAAAAAABU4/ELhyPL_iLEo/s640/elastic-sewn-to-casing.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And then you'll have this!<br />

What I learned from this trip: I packed ALL WRONG. I have all the perfect products at home but didn't bring them, because I was lured in by the prospect of new product shopping.<br />
<br />
Don't make my mistakes! Below is a list of the products I hated and the ones I should have brought instead. <br />
<br />
My dermatologist recommended using a mineral sunscreen instead of a chemical one (or at least in addition to), so I got <a href="http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=389208&catid=183139&aid=338666&aparam=389208" target="_blank">Neutrogena Baby Faces</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0063A42GE/ref=asc_df_B0063A42GE2044702?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B0063A42GE&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14845343811119764606&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=" target="_blank">Banana Boat Natural Reflect SPF 50</a>. Both sort of = a giant fail. I know that mineral sunscreens don't sink in as well, but these basically do not sink in, ever. They remain white, opaque and sticky. Expect to look like Ug on Salute Your Shorts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GY10GoJvPEE/T87gk-pFmsI/AAAAAAAABSg/gwMHlPKgKMo/s1600/beach+salute+your+shorts+ug.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GY10GoJvPEE/T87gk-pFmsI/AAAAAAAABSg/gwMHlPKgKMo/s1600/beach+salute+your+shorts+ug.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Don't even think about trying to wash off the sand that sticks to it, and you'll find a fine white layer on your skin for DAYS after you get home.<br />
<br />
Wanna know what I should have bought? Read on!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<b>1. SUNSCREEN</b><br />
<br />
I should have gone with my go-to sunscreen, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/La-Roche-Posay-Anthelios-Mineral-Sunscreen/dp/B004W55086" target="_blank">La Roche-Posay Anthelios</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2_kx3usjhdA/T87g9h321kI/AAAAAAAABTI/qqxw2kB01io/s1600/beach+mineral+spf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2_kx3usjhdA/T87g9h321kI/AAAAAAAABTI/qqxw2kB01io/s320/beach+mineral+spf.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I LOVE this stuff. It's super light, it sinks in better than any other mineral sunscreen, and it works better than the <a href="http://www.neutrogena.com/product/ultra+sheer+liquid+daily+sunblock+spf+70.do" target="_blank">Neutrogena version</a>. The non-mineral version is just as nice, and I use that too when I run out of this.<br />
<br />
For the body: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Fallene-Complete-Spectrum-Protection-Ounces/dp/B0000632EE" target="_blank">Fallene Complete Spectrum Total Block</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sHIkPhL7XpU/T87h06SffKI/AAAAAAAABTw/NwWq19XSDh0/s1600/beach+total+block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sHIkPhL7XpU/T87h06SffKI/AAAAAAAABTw/NwWq19XSDh0/s320/beach+total+block.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>2. BODY WASH</b><br />
<br />
To wash all this stuff off, you need something effective but still gentle on your skin. I love <a href="http://www.eucerinus.com/products/calm/eucerin-skin-calming-dry-skin-body-wash.html" target="_blank">Eucerin's oil wash</a>! It's true that oil combats oil, and it really works at cleaning your skin but keeping it moisturized. I use a facial oil wash as eye makeup remover too!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Bxo96ud27KU/T87g-Inn5WI/AAAAAAAABTQ/jcI4K2C21vM/s1600/beach+oil+wash.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Bxo96ud27KU/T87g-Inn5WI/AAAAAAAABTQ/jcI4K2C21vM/s320/beach+oil+wash.png" width="202" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>3. HAIR/SCALP PRODUCTS</b><br />
<br />
And while we're on the topic of oil, you should probably bring some <a href="http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=373855&catid=183459&aid=337953&aparam=organix_penetrating_moro&CAWELAID=1076328551" target="_blank">for your hair</a> too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PtVn3i0u-cU/T87g78lAyvI/AAAAAAAABTA/-T0QXLXMrKc/s1600/beach+hair+oil.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PtVn3i0u-cU/T87g78lAyvI/AAAAAAAABTA/-T0QXLXMrKc/s1600/beach+hair+oil.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The one I use is actually the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/pequi-oil-treatment-P282930" target="_blank">Couture Color Pequi Oil Treatment</a>, but I bought that before there were so many reasonably priced drugstore varieties available. Salt and sun are really drying for hair, so you're going to need some extra help conditioning, and for me, a few drops of oil in damp hair makes a huge difference!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xzWTE2j_1m8/T87g7HWILJI/AAAAAAAABSw/y178yrfneWg/s1600/beach+conditioner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xzWTE2j_1m8/T87g7HWILJI/AAAAAAAABSw/y178yrfneWg/s320/beach+conditioner.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Speaking of dry hair, your beach vacation might be a good time to try <a href="http://dormroomcurly.blogspot.com/2008/12/style-definitions-table.html" target="_blank">cowashing</a>! Basically, you use a bunch of conditioner in place of shampoo and it cleans your hair a lot more gently. If this is the first time you've done it, your hair will still be more oily than you're used to right after a wash, but if you're going to the beach again the next day anyway, there's no reason to strip your hair by washing every day with shampoo. Get a really cheap kind, because you're going to be using a lot!<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Suave-Naturals-Conditioner-Juicy-Family/dp/B000GCXSKQ" target="_blank"> Suave Naturals</a> is a great brand to start with. Don't bother with that <a href="http://www.wenhaircare.com/" target="_blank">Wen hair stuff</a>, because it's the same thing as the $2 Suave but costs way more.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tLxcc4kAEtQ/T87g60pCouI/AAAAAAAABSo/0-vULBUBb1E/s1600/beach+banana+boat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tLxcc4kAEtQ/T87g60pCouI/AAAAAAAABSo/0-vULBUBb1E/s320/beach+banana+boat.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And as a final note on hair/head, don't forget to put sunscreen on your scalp! I did, and now it looks like I have some insane dandruff. Try this <a href="http://www.walmart.com/ip/Banana-Boat-Quik-Dry-Sport-Body-Scalp-Broad-Spectrum-Spf-30-Sunblock-6-oz/10293686" target="_blank">Banana Boat spray SPF</a>, and don't skimp! I ended up borrowing Raymond's baseball cap and looking like a college co-ed.<br />
<br />
<b>4. AFTER-SUN CARE </b><br />
<br />
If you do get burned while you're there, you can get aloe at any drugstore. If it's especially itchy and painful, try <a href="http://www.livestrong.com/article/94502-soothe-sunburn-vinegar/" target="_blank">spraying on some vinegar</a>! After you spray it on, let it air dry. You can reapply after a few hours if you start to feel uncomfortable again. If that's not really practical for you, bring some <a href="http://www.chrispycritter.com/" target="_blank">Chrispy Critter gel</a>. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0k8wrX3snoA/T87g7nRj72I/AAAAAAAABS4/hPZARMfnz54/s1600/beach+crispy+chitter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0k8wrX3snoA/T87g7nRj72I/AAAAAAAABS4/hPZARMfnz54/s320/beach+crispy+chitter.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I've never tried it, but it combines aloe, vitamin E and vinegar, so it sounds like it could work! <br />
<br />

(Awww.....) But since I learned all my new vocabulary from books, I didn't get a chance to hear these new words out loud until years later, so I spent my formative years thinking the word "awry" was pronounced "aw'-ree." I felt so embarrassed until my piano teacher in college (who had taught my mom in college) told me a story about how she mispronounced "archipelago" at a dinner party and was so embarrassed. See, we all do it!<br />
<br />
You know what else we all do? Botch up DIYs! Luckily this one still had good results!<br />
<br />
<h3>
<b>HOW (not) TO DIP-DYE/BLEACH A DENIM SKIRT</b></h3>
<br />
<b>1. Find a skirt!</b> Mine was on <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/skirts/mini/PRDOVR%7E78210/78210.jsp?color_name=neon-pink">super sale at J.Crew</a> and is a happy bright neon pink. Get it in store, $60 is too much!<br />
<br />
<b>Step I skipped:</b> Make sure it's 100% cotton! The skirt below is about 87% cotton and the rest is rayon and spandex, making for a very comfy skirt that WILL NOT bleach the way you think it will. <br />
<br />

<b>2. Get out your $2 off-brand bleach!</b><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-powwjvSYbW0/T7_XzVXEU8I/AAAAAAAABRY/RiwkX6jJ_Io/s1600/pink+skirt+6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-powwjvSYbW0/T7_XzVXEU8I/AAAAAAAABRY/RiwkX6jJ_Io/s400/pink+skirt+6.JPG" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">ultra!!! TO THE MAX!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<b>3. Pour some into a bowl, dye pot, or pot that you don't plan to use for cooking again.</b> Mix in some water. I went with a half/half ratio to start with because I wasn't sure how fast the bleach would work. You can start there and add more bleach if you think you need it.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Put your hand up on your hip, and do the dip!</b><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Mflr0Mkjg7M/T7_Xz5g_yqI/AAAAAAAABRg/NAXvHIU4UMA/s1600/pink+skirt+7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Mflr0Mkjg7M/T7_Xz5g_yqI/AAAAAAAABRg/NAXvHIU4UMA/s400/pink+skirt+7.JPG" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">When I dip, you dip, we dip.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Things may not start to happen right away! Depending on the type of fabric, the type of dye, and your bleach mixture, you may want to dip it, get it pretty saturated, and then hang it up or let it sit there in the bleach for a bit. I've bleached items that needed five minutes and some that needed at least 30. Keep an eye on it, and remember that after you machine wash, your item will be a shade lighter than what you're seeing.<br />
<br />
<b>5. Let it lie in wait.</b><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dear New York, please stop raining.</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I need those.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
As you can see, the bleach made my skirt darker and more purple/fuschia than neon pink. Not what I had planned, but still really cute!<br />

I saw a cotton denim men's shirt in Uniqlo on sale, so this DIY may have a part two in the near future! <br />
Thank you, <a href="http://fliesinmyamber.com/">Joann</a>, for posting this hilarious video on your blog! It's perfect for anyone who's a fan of Mike Birbiglia and Terry Gross (or just Terry Gross. Sorry, Mike). It seems like a joke that goes on too long until about 3:50, when it starts to get good. Wait for it....... <br />
<br />
And I agree with Joann that Terry Gross's <a href="http://www.npr.org/2010/11/16/131334322/the-fresh-air-interview-jay-z-decoded">interview with Jay-Z</a> was my favorite. It was pure gold listening to him explain to her why rappers grab their crotches while performing on stage.<br />
<br />
Another favorite moment: Mike Birbiglia on the <a href="http://www.themoth.org/podcast">Moth's podcast</a>, discussing his sleepwalking and how he jumped out of a second story "La Keen-ta EEEEEEEEN."Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16936898420389076587noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340609212460153889.post-89595531558435618622012-05-21T12:28:00.000-07:002012-05-21T12:28:08.949-07:00Kiss Me Heroine Make<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't usually blog about beauty products, but I switched mascaras a few months ago and for the first time in my life am getting compliments on my eyelashes! My lashes are long, but they point straight down, and until I discovered <a href="http://www.sasa.com/SasaWeb/eng/product/viewProductDetail.jspa?itemno=102474003002">this mascara</a>, there was basically nothing I could do about it. No amount of curling or curling mascara or even heat curling made any difference; I could curl and apply mascara and within about five minutes, they'd be back down, pointing toward the ground.</div>
<br />
I borrowed this mascara from a friend and for the first time, my lashes stay curled and up all day! And this mascara does not move! There's no smudging or flaking, and I can even wear it to the gym and rinse my face afterward. The catch is that because it's so long wearing, it's hard to get off. I use <a href="http://www.sephora.com/makeup-breakup-cool-cleansing-oil-P254604">Boscia MakeUp BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil</a> and smear some on my eye area while I brush my teeth, then wash it off. There's also a <a href="http://www.sasa.com/SasaWeb/eng/product/viewProductDetail.jspa?itemno=102474302002">remover</a> made especially for this mascara that works fairly well.<br />
<br />
Just look at the difference!<br />

Is it creepy looking at my eyes like that? Sorry.<br />

Long story short, this is the only mascara I use anymore, and I can't even think of what I'd switch to if they stopped making this. The Long and Curl is pictured and linked, but I'm wearing the Volume and Curl. I don't like the brush on the original (skinny in the middle, fat on the ends) but the new version (with a black top and pink bottom) has a regular brush. You can get it online on Ebay or Amazon, but I recommend <a href="http://www.sasa.com/SasaWeb/eng/sasa/home.jsp">Sasa</a>, my favorite Hong Kong makeup and skincare store. They ship to the US for only $6 and have a ton of other stuff I love! More recommendations to come!<br />

<br />
I hate shows like Hart of Dixie where a tiny, cute/funny/adorable girl is completely miscast as a doctor, which isn't to say that girls like that can't be doctors. It's more to say that Rachel Bilson does not "act" doctor very well.<br />
<br />
Mindy Kaling also seems nothing like a doctor, but at least this trailer makes it seem like there's enough funny stuff in this show to distract from that fact, and possibly even make up for it. Look at all those sequins she wears! (No, that wasn't sarcastic.) I can't wait to watch!<br />
<br />
P.S. I do not actually hate Hart of Dixie. Despite its completely unreal presentation of small town South: those horrible accents, the fact that everyone on the show seems to be a secret country star, and the fact that a black man is mayor of a small town in the South when he is one of a minority population of two (three if you count the Asian); in spite of all those things, it's one of my favorite shows to listen to while I'm knitting/sewing/dyeing. I marvel at Lemon's ability to wear unsmudgable dark lipstick! I loved Annabet's Anthropologie dress! And I secretly wish that growing up in a small town was something, anything like that show instead of the pure social torture it is in real life.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16936898420389076587noreply@blogger.com0
